2013 Chapel Hill-Carrboro Middle School Model United Nations Conference
The Fourth Annual Chapel Hill-Carrboro Middle School Model United Nations Conference will take place on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Smith Middle School and the Carolina Center for Educational Excellence.
120 students from the four Chapel Hill-Carrboro middle schools will come together to participate in a daylong conference on a topic to be announced. They will spend a school day at the CCEE, researching, learning, and debating together with their peers. The conference will simulate debates at the United Nations Security Council. It will be organized by the UNC School of Education in cooperation with the West Triangle Chapter of the United Nations Association and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District. The committees will be chaired by officers of the Model UN clubs at Carrboro High, Chapel Hill High and East Chapel Hill High School.
The participating schools and the teachers preparing the students are:
Students will be assigned one of the countries in the UN Security Council.
They will research their country’s geography, history, culture, economy, and politics, especially its position towards the chosen topic. During the conference they will take on the role of a diplomat representing this country in the United Nations Security Council and try to get as much as possible of their country’s view on the conflict into a resolution to be adopted by the Council.
